PARMIGIANO-REGGIANO CHEESE OF ITALY
This year Italy celebrates the 150th anniversary of its foundation

Reggio Emilia, 7 March 2011 - This year Italy celebrates the 150th anniversary of its foundation.
In 1861 our cheese was produced in the territory of Parma and therefore named 'Parmigiano' and in the territory of Reggio Emilia and Modena and therefore named 'Reggiano'.
These territories, before the unification of Italy, formed two distinct duchies. Only in 1934 the producers agreed to call their cheese with the two original names of Parmigiano and Reggiano and the Consorzio was funded. Here begins our modern history.
