Parmigiano Reggiano cleans up at San Sebastian. Parmigiano Reggiano most awarded product at the World Cheese Awards

37 medals and 3 “Supergolds” for the dairies on the Parmigiano Reggiano National Team. An unprecedented result. “Supergolds" for "Fornacione", "Grana d'Oro" and "Barchessone". Triumph in the over-30 months class.

Reggio Emilia, 21 November 2016 - An unprecedented result at the World Cheese Awards 2016 in San Sebastian from the Parmigiano Reggiano National Team, made up of the 42 dairies who took on the world’s best PDO cheeses.

Indeed, for the first time the National Team broke the record of 30 medals, winning 37 and three “Supergolds”, sending Parmigiano Reggiano to the top of the ranking for the most awarded cheeses in the world.

Having already left Spain as the “record team” for the number of dairies participating (exactly 42, 7 more than 2015) and samples presented (100 in total, including a 50-month matured Parmigiano Reggiano), the “National Parmigiano Reggiano Team” - as stressed by the President of the Consortium, Alessandro Bezzi - has achieved an extraordinary result that honours the work of our farmers, dairies and cheese makers, because winning on quality is the greatest satisfaction that we can hope for, and our most valuable asset on the international market and in our relationship with consumers”.

The Parmigiano Reggiano National Team’s performance certainly stands out, with 10 golds, 12 silvers, 15 bronzes and, above all, the 3 “Supergolds” awarded to the Latteria Sociale del Fornacione di Felina, the Latteria Sociale Barchessone and the Azienda Agricola Grana d'Oro Vacche Rosse, all in the province of Reggio Emilia.

A hoard of awards in all classes (18-21 month, 22-24 month and over-30 month), with all three “Supergolds” awarded for samples with the longest maturation periods.

“The judging this year - explains Gabriele Arlotti, creator of the National Team - has been very strict, all the more reason for our satisfaction with this extraordinary team result and with the international jury’s appreciation of our product and our dairies”.

“It is to them - asserts Consortium President Alessandro Bezzi - that we offer our compliments and gratitude, because they have reasserted the unique qualities that characterise the Parmigiano Reggiano system, and they bear witness to the values that link our product to the area of origin and to which thousands of farmers and hundreds of artisan dairies adhere every day, seeking ever higher levels of quality”.
