Parmigiano Reggiano flies to New York for the Summer Fancy Food Show Hall 2901-2903 LEVEL 3

The Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium is taking part in the Summer Fancy Food Show (June 30 – July 2), the most important Food & Beverage Show in North America

Reggio Emilia, June 25, 2018 –  The Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium is ready to take part in the Summer Fancy Food Show (June 30 - July 2), the most important Food&Beverage Show in America.

For Parmigiano Reggiano, the United States are an important market: in 2017 product exports exceeded 9 thousand tons, confirming the USA as the first overseas market and as the third market following France and Germany.

2017 was however a difficult year for exports to the United States because of the Euro-Dollar ratio that favoured exports and the competition of similar products. A considerable reduction of 9.3% vs. the previous year was recorded.  The situation improved already in the first quarter of 2018, as confirmed by the joint Parmigiano Reggiano – Grana Padano customs code that recorded a +1% increase. There are therefore reasons for thinking that the American market will regain its role as one of the most important outlets outside the domestic borders.

The Show will be an opportunity to strengthen the product image and to talk about the distinctiveness of a Made-in-Italy icon that has more than nine centuries of history and a recipe that has never changed over time.

The Consortium will explain how to identify the authentic Parmigiano Reggiano and tell it apart from similar products.  The Show will also be an occasion to meet business operators, buyers and the press, and to talk about the commitment of the Protection Consortium on the American market.  Despite the interruption of the EU-US negotiations, the Consortium has indeed intensified checks and controls on products and labels to ensure consumers that the product on the market is authentic and original.

The schedule of appointments is thick and it includes an aperitif with traders at the historical Hotel American and other initiatives dedicated to the Food press.

The Consortium has intensified media relations activities abroad and has a packed program of activities dedicated to American media and influencers. Last month, the Osteria Morini restaurant, headed by the famous chef Michael White, celebrated the king of cheeses with a press event that involved about thirty of the most important New York City media.  An important delegation of American journalists will be visiting the Food Valley on a press tour in the fall to personally experience the naturalness and authenticity of the King of Cheeses.
