In Birmingham, at the World Cheese Awards 2015 – with 2727 cheeses from 26 countries – 28 medals were awarded to dairies of the National Parmigiano Reggiano Team with the Super Gold to two dairies: Agrinascente from Fidenza and Venera Vecchia from Gonzaga

Birmingham, 28 November 2015 – “Also this year we’ve really outdone ourselves; we have put together a more numerous team, which has hit our previous participation record, and we have been awarded the highest number of medals, a good 28, with twoWCA 2015 i due Supergold Agrinascente e Venera Vecchia con G Arlotti Super Golds for the National Parmigiano Reggiano Team, which is thus the cheese that has been awarded the highest number of prizes with dairies from all the provinces of the production area.  This is evidence of the commitment and desire of all Parmigiano Reggiano producers to get to know other dairy products and break new grounds to communicate the product’s high quality. This was the statement made by Giuseppe Alai, President of the Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese Consortium, commenting on the participation in the 2015 World Cheese Awards contest of 35 dairies, under the banner of the National Parmigiano Reggiano Team, which submitted 78 samples of cheese of different lengths of maturation to compete with producers and distributors from all over the world.  Altogether, this meant 2,727 cheeses from 26 different countries, ranging from Australia to the USA, from South Africa to Northern Europe, assessed by over 250 jurors from 22 nations.

Indeed the ‘King of cheeses’ was the PDO cheese being awarded the highest number of prizes with 7 golds, 11 silvers and 8 bronzes, and especially two Super Golds awarded to Agrinascente (Fidenza in the province of Parma) and Venera Vecchia (Gonzaga in the province of Mantua). “The work of the teams of judges was very strict – explained Gabriele Arlotti, creator of the National Team – yet we got the 100th award in almost fifteen years of existence. The most significant awards are the two Super Golds that add to the one awarded to Granadoro from Cavriago in the province of Reggio Emilia last year. This team work is a reward also for farmers, cheese masters and families that see their activity being appreciated in Birmingham by an international audience”.
The World Cheese Awards 2015 took place at BBC Good Food Show Winter that ends on Sunday 29 November, where an area is dedicated to the promotion and sale of Parmigiano Reggiano, organised by the National Parmigiano Reggiano Team in collaboration with the Consortium with three different types of Parmigiano Reggiano (plains, mountains, red cows).

“Congratulations to all our participating dairies and in particular to National Team members Agrinascente and Venera Vecchia – concludes Alai – which have been selected by the judges and awarded the “Super Gold” to compete with the world’s best cheeses in the Grand Final. We are thus proud to confirm not only a record of participation and results, but also the values that tie product and producers to the area of origin in a continuous quest for top quality, which has been recently reinforced by the decisions of the general meeting of dairies with the changes to be made to the Production Specification”.
