Parmigiano Reggiano at Cheese 2017

Promoting quality, craftsmanship, and local ties together with Slow Food

Reggio Emilia, 27 June 2017 - The partnership between the Consortium of Parmigiano Reggiano and Slow Food Italy is strengthened.

The protection consortium will be at the forefront of Cheese 2017, the international exhibition about the world of quality dairy that will take place on September 15-18 in Bra.

The Consortium's support, made official today in a press conference, follows the recent publication by Slow Food of a comprehensive guide entirely dedicated to Parmigiano Reggiano dairies, with special focus on 132 dairies that are particularly adept at selling directly to consumers through their farm shops, farmhouse holidays and use of the internet.

"The Cheese event in Bra,” as the President of the Consortium, Nicola Bertinelli, points out, "represents an international showcase of extraordinary value, especially for a product whose strengths are its naturalness, craftsmanship and strong local ties."

"The 2700,000 visitors who, on average, come to Bra," says Bertinelli, "represent a wide cross-section of the catering and domestic consumption sectors, which are looking for products with characteristics such as ours and for direct contact with producers."

This is why, in addition to supporting the event, the Consortium will attend Cheese 2017 with a stand that will focus on the dairies present at the trade fair. "In this way" says Bertinelli, "people will be able to appreciate first hand not just the unique characteristics of our product, but also the differences in maturation stages, local geographical features, cattle breeds and production methods which, being completely artisanal, convey the master cheese makers' unique imprint."

The Consortium will also organize a number of "Taste Laboratories", guiding consumers and caterers in their sensory appreciation of the different characteristics of Parmigiano Reggiano, presented also in combination with outstanding wines and other gastronomic specialties.
