Reggio Emilia, 2nd October 2007 – “Café de Colombia” is the first non-European product receiving the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) recognition from the EU. About one year ago, the Federation of "Cafeteros" from Columbia received the “Parmigiano-Reggiano International Award” (established in 2004 by the Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese Consortium, on occasion of its 70th Anniversary, in recognition of the commitment undertaken to defend and enhance typical food products worldwide).
On Thursday, 27th September, at the Berlaymont Palace, seat of the European Commission, the awarding ceremony took place in the presence of Ambassadors and high level representatives of the European Commission and of the Latin American country. Leo Bertozzi, the Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese Consortium’s Director, was one of the participants.
